Samarkand region and Tajikistan’s Penjikent city to be connected by railway
The transport departments of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan discussed the issue of building a railway line, which will connect Tajikistan’s Penjikent city with Samarkand region of Uzbekistan, Asia-Plus informs.
The project was discussed at a meeting between Deputy Transport Minister of Tajikistan Shoista Saidmurodzoda and Deputy Transport Minister of Uzbekistan Abdusamat Muminov.
The meeting also discussed a draft agreement between the governments of the two countries “On the transit of dangerous goods through the territory of Uzbekistan”.
In addition, the parties considered the possibility of restoring air communication between the two countries in compliance with epidemiological requirements, as well as the restoration of cargo transportation through the “Bekabad-Istiklol-Bekabad” railway section and road cargo transportation through the “Patar-Andarkhon” checkpoint.
It should be recalled that on June 10-12 this year, the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Tajikistan will take place.
