Six-time champion of Uzbekistan condemned for attempting to sell her four-day-old baby
The Samarkand criminal court has sentenced a 25-year-old athlete to 4.5 years in prison. She was convicted of selling her four-day-old baby for $2,500.
According to STV, the six-time champion of Uzbekistan had a child as a result of a romantic relationship with a young man during training.
After the birth of the baby, the woman, with the help of her friend, decided to get rid of him.
The athlete was detained at the time of receiving the money from a “potential buyer”.
She was found guilty under Article 135 (trafficking in persons) of the Criminal Code.
