Colonel Olim Saidov, head of the MIA traffic safety department, said drunk driving was a crime and proposals were being made to introduce aggravating measures in the administrative and criminal codes.

Commenting on this, the chairman of the Mass Media Foundation Komil Allamjonov noted that he supports this proposal.

“I propose to punish drivers who drive being intoxicated with 15 days of arrest and deprivation of their driver’s license. Considering that thousands of people die in road accidents every year, I believe that it is necessary to declare this situation a matter of utmost importance. The road safety situation is very difficult,” Allamjonov wrote in his Telegram channel.

Currently, drunk driving – under Article 131 of the Administrative Responsibility Code, entails deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for a period of 1 year and 6 months to 3 years and the imposition of a fine in the amount of 25 BCAs.

If the amount of alcohol in the driver’s body exceeds 0.135 ppm, it is considered that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Currently, 25 BCAs are equal to 6 million 750 thousand soums. If the fine is paid within 15 days, it will amount to 4 million 725 thousand soums with a 30% discount.

In practice, even if the guilty driver is deprived of the right to drive, he often continues to drive, trying not to be noticed by the traffic police.
