Law on referendum to be amended
At the twenty-seventh plenary session, senators discussed the law “On amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
As the parliamentary press service reported, the law provides for amendments and additions to the Electoral Code, the laws “On the status of a deputy of the regional, district and city council of people’s deputies”, “On the administrative-territorial structure of the Republic of Uzbekistan” and “On the referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
Thus, through the amendments to the law “On the referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, the procedure for consideration by referendum commissions of applications from individuals and legal entities, the inclusion of citizens residing in foreign states in the lists of voting citizens, the circle of persons who cannot be members of a referendum commission will be determined.
In addition, the law “On the status of a deputy of the regional, district and city council of people’s deputies” establishes that in the event that the territory of an electoral district is transferred to another administrative-territorial unit or a new administrative-territorial unit is formed on its territory, the powers of a deputy elected from this constituency will be preserved.
At the same time, the deputy is a member of the council of people’s deputies, on the territory of which the electoral district is located, or the council of people’s deputies, formed on the newly formed administrative-territorial unit, and the term of office of the deputy will be brought into line with the term of office of this council of people’s deputies.
