Women working in private sector may now receive maternity benefits

From September 1, the procedure for paying maternity benefits has changed.

This is stated in the presidential decree “On approval of the strategy of social protection of the population of Uzbekistan”.

In accordance with the document, the Social Insurance Fund has been formed under the Ministry of Finance. The sources of financing the activities of the fund are the state budget and other sources not prohibited by law.

It is established that at the expense of the social insurance fund:

- from September 1 of the current year, the maternity allowance is paid at the rate of the minimum consumer expenditures within the framework of state social insurance. At the same time, if there are breaks in the work experience of an employee for up to one month, then when calculating the continuous work experience, the months preceding the breaks and after them are taken into account;

- in the future, the payment of benefits for state social insurance will be carried out in stages through the information system “Unified Register of Social Protection”.

It should be recalled that on March 7, the president signed a decree “On measures to further accelerate work on systemic support for families and women”.

The document stated that from September 1, 2022, women with continuous work experience over the past 6 months in all legal entities, with the exception of budgetary organizations, are paid maternity benefits from the state budget based on the minimum amount of monthly consumer spending.
