A trade complex in Tashkent to be transformed into students’ dormitory
A vacant 10,000-seat building on the territory of the newly built “Tashkent Index” trade-production complex in Yangihayat district will be turned into a dormitory for students within a week under the terms of PPP. City khokim Jakhongir Artikhodjayev made such a proposal.

On September 9, a meeting was held at the Tashkent city administration on the issue of housing for students, the press service of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education reported.
The meeting was attended by minister Abdukodir Toshkulov, khokim Jakhongir Artikhodjayev, heads of sectors and rectors of higher education institutions.
It is noted that currently the dormitory capacity of 92 universities in Tashkent is 35,636 seats. Today, the needs of 27,354 students have been met.
In 2022, 60 more projects with 30,956 seats are being implemented within the framework of public-private partnership projects, universities and budget funds and the investment program.
At the meeting, representatives of the ministry said that such measures are not enough and other opportunities should be sought. They put forward a number of suggestions.
In turn, Jakhongir Artikhodjayev offered to turn the vacant 10,000-seat business building in the territory of the “Tashkent Index” commercial and industrial complex, built in Yangihayot district of the capital, into a residence for students within a week on the basis of public-private partnership.
The participants of the meeting supported the proposal.
