Committee for Developing Competition and Consumer Rights Protection assures that there will be no problems with sugar in Uzbekistan
The Committee for Developing Competition and Consumer Rights Protection assured that one million tons of sugar is enough to consistently meet the annual needs of the population of the republic.
Almost every year there is a boom in the country due to the lack of sugar. The Committee for Developing Competition and Consumer Rights Protection reported that this year it should not happen, since the government has developed the necessary measures to prevent risks that may arise in the activities of local entrepreneurs in the production and sale of sugar in 2023.
Today, domestic factories buy sugar from Brazil at low prices compared to world exchange quotations. As of April 15, domestic factories have resources in the amount of 357 thousand tons of sugar, long-term contracts for the supply of raw materials at low prices have been concluded. It is noted that 8 thousand tons of finished sugar and 78 thousand tons of raw materials are stored in warehouses, the remaining 271 thousand tons will be delivered by June.
It is reported that domestic producers are currently modernizing production facilities, which will contribute to the uninterrupted supply of the local sugar market. In particular, by May 1, as part of the first stage, it is planned to increase sugar production capacity by 25% compared to last year, as a result of which up to 2.5 thousand tons of sugar per day will be produced. It is expected that the annual production of sugar will increase from 600 thousand to 1 million tons.
It is noted that at present sugar is sold at retail prices from 11,500 to 14,000 soums, and in some remote areas from 12,000 to 15,000 soums.
The department assured that sugar (one million with an average annual consumption of 650,000 tons) is enough to consistently meet the annual needs of citizens.
