President Mirziyoyev receives UN FAO Director General

On Thursday, September 7, Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Director General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization Qu Dongyu, who is in Uzbekistan to participate in the International Conference on Food Security.

The sides exchanged views on countering modern challenges and threats to food security, including at the regional level.

Imbalances in the development of the agricultural sector, shortage of water resources, long and inefficient value chains, and failures in logistics were noted as the main risks for sustainable development.

The parties reached an agreement to include in the new program of cooperation between Uzbekistan and FAO until 2030 joint activities to modernize agriculture based on scientific research and innovation, digitalization of the agricultural sector, the implementation of effective financial support tools, and the introduction of effective mechanisms for managing the agro-food system.
