Samarkand to host UNESCO General Assembly session in 2025
The 42nd session of the UNESCO General Assembly held in Paris, voted for Uzbekistan’s proposal to hold the next, 43rd session in 2025 in the city of Samarkand.
“For the first time in more than 40 years, the session of the UNESCO General Assembly will be held outside of Paris,” wrote the spokesperson for the President of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Asadov, in his telegram channel. “The 42nd session of the General Assembly, taking place in the French capital, supported Uzbekistan’s proposal to hold the next, 43rd session in 2025 in the city of Samarkand and made a corresponding decision."
“This is a diplomatic success,” commented the chairperson of the 42nd session, Simona-Mirela Miculescu, on the decision.
It should be recalled that on October 16-20, the 25th session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) was successfully held in Samarkand, in which representatives of more than 140 countries took part. At the opening of the session, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev delivered a keynote speech.
