Archaeological sites damaged in five regions for construction of toilets, greenhouses and houses
In total, 12 monuments were damaged in Kashkadarya, Jizzakh, Syrdarya, Navoi and Tashkent regions.
During control activities carried out by the prosecutor's office together with the Cultural Heritage Agency, evidence of damage to archaeological monuments was revealed in five regions.
In particular:
• in Kashkadarya, the destruction of 2.4 sq. m. of the Kofirtepa-2 monument (VII – XIII centuries), 6 sq. m. of the Beshteraktepa monument (IX – XII centuries) and 189 sq. m. of the Khontepa monument (XI – XIII centuries) for the construction of residential buildings was prevented;
• in Jizzakh, 14 sq. m. of the Tomoshotepa-2 monument (IV – V centuries) were destroyed due to the construction of a toilet, and 30 sq. m. of the Koratepa monument (V – VI centuries) – greenhouse;
• in Syrdarya, 6.4 sq. m. of the Khashartepa monument (IX – XII centuries) were damaged due to the construction of a toilet and bathhouse;
• in Navoi, 16 sq. m. of the Gazgontepa monument were used for the antenna of a mobile company, 5.3 sq. m. of the Nonvoylartepa-2 monument, 23 sq. m. of the Kaltepa monument (V – VIII centuries) and 20 sq. m. of the Yasiltepa monument (III – XI centuries) – for outbuildings;
• in the Tashkent region, 15 sq. m. of the Nomsiztepa-1 monument were used for a toilet, and 1.92 sq. m. of the Nomsiztepa-2 monument were partially destroyed for the construction of a greenhouse.
The damage caused to 12 monuments amounted to 8.3 billion soums.
Based on these facts, criminal cases have been initiated and a preliminary investigation is underway.
