Foreign nationals arrested for theft on Uzbekistan Airways flight to Kuala Lumpur
On August 15, 2024, several foreign nationals were apprehended for attempting to steal passengers' belongings aboard Uzbekistan Airways flight HY553, en route from Tashkent to Kuala Lumpur. The airline disclosed details of the incident, which occurred during the flight.
Upon the aircraft's arrival in Kuala Lumpur, the flight crew alerted local authorities after passengers reported missing valuables. Malaysian police promptly boarded the plane, conducted a thorough search, and successfully recovered the stolen items.
The individuals suspected of the theft were taken into custody and handed over to the Malaysian police for further investigation.
Uzbekistan Airways issued a reminder to passengers, emphasizing the importance of keeping valuable items and money in their immediate possession throughout the flight. The airline also advised passengers to store their carry-on luggage securely in the overhead compartments.
