The issue was discussed at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur between Uzbek diplomats and Aminudin bin Yahaya, Deputy Director General of Malaysia’s Immigration Department.
The Uzbek side outlined ongoing reforms to the country’s visa policy, as well as measures aimed at promoting safe overseas employment and supporting Uzbek citizens who work and study abroad.
Uzbek officials noted that Uzbekistan has introduced visa-free entry for citizens of more than 93 countries and launched an electronic visa system for nationals of more than 70 others.
The sides also highlighted the steady expansion of Uzbekistan–Malaysia cooperation in trade and economic relations, tourism, education, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges. They noted that a number of agreements underpinning this cooperation were reached during reciprocal official visits by the two countries’ leaders.
Aminudin bin Yahaya praised the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan and noted the growth in tourist exchanges between the two countries in recent years.
Representatives of Malaysia’s Immigration Department also reported an increase in the number of Uzbek citizens receiving permits for legal residence in Malaysia. According to the department, Uzbek citizens mainly travel to Malaysia for education and employment as skilled professionals.
