A Korean tourist shared a video about his trip to Samarkand on his YouTube channel “Deno Trip.” In the video, while searching for a ticket to enter the historical site, the tourist encountered two police officers. One officer asked for money but did not specify whether it should be in dollars or Uzbek soums.
To clarify, the tourist asked if they meant 50,000 UZS, to which the officers confirmed. They then instructed him to "place the money in the unused trash bin and leave," pointing to several green bins behind the wall. The video was posted on September 14, 2024.
The tourist left the specified amount of UZS in the indicated location and later remarked in Korean, “They took a bribe.”
Kun.uz reached out to the press service of the Samarkand Regional Department of Internal Affairs for clarification regarding the incident.
“A service inspection was conducted regarding the matter. Two officers from the Patrol-Post Service Battalion were dismissed from their positions for actions that tarnished the reputation of law enforcement personnel,” stated the official report.
