Uzbek national wanted for insulting the president extradited from Azerbaijan
A citizen of Uzbekistan has been extradited from Azerbaijan to face criminal charges related to insulting the honor and dignity of the president, the Azerbaijani Prosecutor General’s Office announced.
The request for extradition was submitted by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan and approved by the Azerbaijani authorities. The individual in question – Amonbek Yusupov, born in 1982 – was transferred to the Uzbek side for prosecution.
Yusupov had been placed on an interstate wanted list and was apprehended in Azerbaijan in April of this year. Following his arrest, a preventive measure in the form of detention was imposed.
His extradition was carried out under the provisions of the Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family and Criminal Matters.
Yusupov was handed over to Uzbekistan’s authorized representatives under the escort of a special convoy from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Justice’s Penitentiary Service.
