Uzbekistan proposes stricter penalties for traffic violations, including license suspensions
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has proposed a series of legislative amendments aimed at tightening penalties for drivers who repeatedly or severely violate traffic rules. The draft law is currently open for public discussion until September 25.

According to the proposal, drivers who commit ten serious traffic offenses within a month – such as exceeding the speed limit by more than 40–60 km/h, running a red light, or driving into oncoming lanes – could face suspension of their driver’s license for six months. The ministry noted that repeated violations of this nature are among the main causes of road accidents with serious consequences.
Officials emphasized that cases of reckless driving, disregard for traffic culture, and lack of respect for other road users are growing, making tougher measures necessary to improve safety.
Another provision of the draft law introduces stricter penalties for extreme speeding. Exceeding the legal speed limit by more than 100 km/h would result in a six-month suspension of driving privileges along with a fine of 20 BCU (UZS 8.24 million).
In addition, the legislation seeks to impose fines for parking or leaving heavy trucks on road shoulders, except where permitted by existing traffic rules. Such violations would carry a penalty of 5 BCU (UZS 2.06 million).
The draft also introduces a new article on improper vehicle deregistration for disposal or dismantling. Unauthorized scrapping or dismantling of vehicles without submitting the registration certificate and license plates to the competent authority would result in fines of 5 BCU (UZS 2.06 million) for individuals and 10 BCU (UZS 4.12 million) for officials.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs believes the new measures will encourage stricter compliance with traffic regulations and help prevent accidents with severe outcomes.
