Uzbekistan Airways plans to double its fleet by 2030

Uzbekistan Airways aims to at least double its fleet by 2030, with plans for major aircraft deliveries and fleet expansion already underway.

Speaking at a press conference on January 28, Shukhrat Khudaykulov, the airline’s chairman, outlined the carrier’s ambitious growth strategy, noting that Uzbekistan Airways currently operates a fleet of 47 aircraft. This year, the airline expects to receive four additional leased planes, as reported by Spot.

The expansion will be supported by contracts with Airbus for 14 aircraft and Boeing for 22 aircraft. Airbus deliveries are scheduled over three years: four planes in 2028, six in 2029, and another four in 2030. Meanwhile, Boeing 787−9 Dreamliners will begin arriving at the end of 2030, financed through credit arrangements.

Khudaykulov emphasized that fleet growth will begin immediately, with the four leased aircraft arriving this year forming just the starting point. “We already see strong market demand and intend to expand further. Considering all factors, by 2030 the Uzbekistan Airways fleet will at least double,” he said.

This expansion builds on earlier agreements, including a 2022 contract with Airbus for 12 aircraft – eight A320neo and four A321neo – worth €694.3 million, along with two H145 helicopters for €21 million. Five ATR-72 aircraft were also procured for regional carrier Silk Avia.

The Uzbek government is supporting the airline’s growth as part of a broader civil aviation strategy. In October 2025, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved a decree outlining key targets for 2030:

  • Increase the combined fleet of domestic airlines to 180 aircraft
  • Expand the total number of domestic and international flights to 200,000 per year
  • Boost passenger traffic to 24 million annually
