The section runs from the roundabout at the intersection of Shahrisabz, Mirabad and Shota Rustaveli streets to the intersection with Amir Temur Avenue. Curbs separate the dedicated lane from general traffic, and the project added five new bus stops.
The project fully reconstructed the road to accommodate regular traffic by high-capacity buses and withstand sustained loads, including on the road base.
Excavation reached more than 2 metres in some areas. The project removed the existing road base and rebuilt the roadbed. It also used geotextile to reduce the impact of ground moisture and prevent soil movement and subsidence.
The new road base consists of a 35-centimetre layer of sand and gravel, an M-75 strengthening layer, 9 centimetres of coarse-grained asphalt concrete and a 5-centimetre final layer of SMA-20.
The dedicated public transport lane is designed to reduce the impact of traffic congestion on buses, improve service regularity and make it safer for passengers to access and leave bus stops.
Construction did not require a full road closure. Work was carried out in stages on the central lanes, while traffic continued to move in both directions along the outer lanes.
The 1.2-kilometre section is the first stage of the BRT project on Shahrisabz Street. The overall project envisages a BRT lane along roughly 3 kilometres of the street.
