Uzbekistan and Austria seek to broaden multifaceted partnership
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received an Austrian delegation on May 7, led by the Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, and the Federal Minister of the Interior, Gerhard Karner.
At the start of the meeting, the visiting officials conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the Federal President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, to President Mirziyoyev.
The discussions focused primarily on the advancement of practical cooperation between the two countries. The parties expressed satisfaction with the consistent growth of dialogue across various levels. This upward trajectory is reflected in trade figures, with bilateral turnover increasing threefold in recent years. Active cooperation projects are currently being implemented in sectors such as construction materials, mountain tourism, healthcare, the chemical industry, agriculture, and banking and finance.

The Intergovernmental Commission continues to serve as an effective platform for fostering these ties. During the current visit, a joint business forum was successfully held, resulting in the signing of significant agreements covering labor migration, diplomatic services, and taxation. Cultural and educational exchanges are also on the rise, further cementing the bond between the two countries.
President Mirziyoyev stressed the necessity of establishing a systematic high-level dialogue to further drive trade volumes and promote joint projects in priority sectors.

Regarding security cooperation, the meeting participants noted the importance of maintaining regular information exchange to combat global threats. Specific focus was placed on joining forces against terrorism, human trafficking, drug trafficking, and cybercrime. The sides also exchanged views on pressing regional and international issues of mutual concern.
