Uzbekistan U17 finish top of Group D after 2–0 win over Australia
Uzbekistan’s U-17 national team has secured first place in Group D at the AFC U17 Asian Cup after a 2–0 victory over Australia on May 13 in Saudi Arabia.
Under head coach Sergey Chigodaev, Uzbekistan controlled the match and took the lead in the 28th minute when Mirkomil Murodov finished from the left side of the penalty area with a precise strike into the far corner. Just before halftime, in the 45th minute, Akhror Ravshanbekov doubled the advantage, converting from close range after a move down the flank.
With this result, Uzbekistan finished the group stage on six points, ahead of Australia, which placed second with three points. India finished third without a point. North Korea withdrew from the competition before the start of the group stage.
In the opening round, Uzbekistan defeated India 3–0, securing their place in the knockout stage and strengthening their position in the group standings.
Uzbekistan will face South Korea in the quarterfinals on May 16.
The FIFA U17 World Cup will be held in Qatar in November and December this year. Uzbekistan’s qualification status is linked to its performance in the tournament.
