President Mirziyoyev congratulates Uzbek pilgrims in Makkah on upcoming Eid al-Adha
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation on May 21 with the Chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, Mufti Sheikh Nuriddin Kholiqnazarov, to discuss the ongoing Hajj pilgrimage and extend his greetings.
During the call, the president expressed his sincere congratulations to all Uzbek pilgrims currently in the holy city of Makkah on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. He shared his hopes that their prayers for the peace of the country, the prosperity of the people, and the happiness of the youth would be accepted.
The scale of the annual pilgrimage has grown significantly in recent years, with more than 15,000 Uzbek citizens now performing the Hajj annually. This year, a new social initiative was introduced, resulting in 100 citizens, including labor veterans, neighborhood activists, and members of low-income families, traveling to the holy sites at state expense for the first time.
President Mirziyoyev inquired about the health and spirits of the pilgrims, as well as the organizational arrangements made to facilitate their worship. In response, Mufti Sheikh Nuriddin Kholiqnazarov confirmed that all necessary conditions have been established in Makkah and Medina. He noted that the pilgrims are performing their rituals with deep gratitude, praying for the continued stability and development of Uzbekistan.
The discussion also touched upon the broader religious and educational reforms taking place within the country. Both parties highlighted the impact of newly completed projects, such as the Imam Bukhari complex, the Center of Islamic Civilization, and the Burhanuddin Marghinani scientific-educational and tourism complex, which serve to promote the rich spiritual heritage of the nation’s ancestors.
Looking ahead to the pilgrims' return, the president expressed confidence that the Hajjis would become role models in their communities. He emphasized their potential role in conveying the values of enlightened Islam and healthy faith to the younger generation, while fostering a spirit of kindness and unity in local neighborhoods.
In the spirit of Eid al-Adha, the conversation also highlighted significant social support measures. Additional funding is being allocated to assist vulnerable populations, including provisions for complex surgical procedures for over 10,000 children and specialized treatment for approximately 2,000 patients with serious illnesses.
Concluding the call, the president sent his personal regards to all pilgrims, wishing them a safe and healthy journey back to their homeland.
