Uzbekistan targets 879-ton increase in gold reserves over next five years
Uzbekistan has launched an initiative to expand its national gold reserves by an additional 879 tons over the next five years. The plans were disclosed during a presentation to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev focusing on the integration of digital technologies and artificial intelligence within the mining and geology sectors.
Alongside the targets for gold, the government aims to boost silver reserves by 510 tons and expand copper deposits by 676,000 tons. Authorities intend to secure these increases by scaling up exploration activities, digitalizing existing geological data, and adopting advanced AI solutions.
AI technologies will be deployed to accelerate the analysis of geological data, forecast mineral deposits, accurately calculate reserves, and optimize the efficiency of drilling operations. Industry experts expect these technological tools to shorten the timeframe required for exploration and significantly improve the detection rate of new mineral deposits.
A key component of this modernization effort involves gathering all available geological records into a single electronic repository to enable 3D modeling and advanced analysis. For this purpose, a National Geological Database will be established. The creation of this platform requires the complete digitalization of more than 36,000 archival reports and primary data sets.
President Mirziyoyev directed officials to accelerate the technological transformation of the sector, expand the practical application of AI in operational processes, and maximize the efficiency of field exploration.
The presentation also highlighted that Uzbekistan plans to attract more than $30 billion in investments into its geology and mining sectors by 2030. Achieving this investment target relies heavily on establishing a fully digital data ecosystem and embedding AI throughout the industry's infrastructure.
