Central Bank expands commemorative coin issuance for World Cup 2026 amid surging demand

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has announced an additional issuance of commemorative coins dedicated to the national football team’s debut appearance in the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Citing exceptionally high interest and numerous inquiries from the public, the regulator will release an extra 400 gold and 2,000 silver coins into circulation. This move effectively increases the total mintage of the gold coins fivefold to 500 pieces, while the total volume of silver coins will triple to 3,000 pieces.

Information regarding daily pricing and availability across various banking facilities will be updated regularly on the Central Bank's official website and social media platforms.

The decision follows an initial announcement by the Central Bank on June 16 regarding the debut of the commemorative series, which consists of 100 gold and 1,000 silver coins with a face value of UZS 100,000. These coins became available for public purchase on June 18 through 690 regional branches of domestic commercial banks.

The artistic design of the series highlights the historic sporting milestone. The obverse features a classic football alongside the official logo of the Uzbekistan Football Association, accompanied by the inscription "Tarixiy Zafar. O'zbekiston futboli Jahon Chempionatida 2026". The reverse side features the silhouette of a wolf – honoring the national team’s official "White Wolves" moniker – ingeniously composed from the smaller silhouettes of 26 football players to symbolize squad unity and collective effort.
