Sardor Umurzakov heads Agency for Strategic Development and Reforms

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has appointed Sardor Umurzakov as Director of the Sardor Umurzakov heads Agency for Strategic Development and Reforms.

Umurzakov assumes the post following the departure of Abdulla Abduqodirov, who was relieved of his duties as acting director after being transferred to another position.

In connection with the appointment, Umurzakov was relieved of his duties as the president's adviser on strategic development, a position he had held since July 2025. The post of presidential adviser on strategic development has now been abolished.

Born in 1977, Umurzakov graduated from Tashkent State University of Economics before earning a master's degree at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. He also holds a PhD.

Over the course of his career, he worked in Uzbekistan's banking sector, at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London, and in the country's public finance system, including the Ministry of Finance's Treasury.

Between 2014 and 2019, Umurzakov held several senior positions in Uzbekistan's leather industry associations, serving as an adviser to the chairman of the Uzcharmpoyabzali Association, later as deputy chairman, and subsequently as chairman of the Uzcharmsanoat Association.

In January 2019, he was appointed Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade. In March 2020, the Legislative Chamber approved his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister. He also served as head of the Presidential Administration between 2022 and 2023.
