President Mirziyoyev to attend funeral of Qatar's former emir in Doha
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is expected to travel to Doha later today after completing his visit to the city of Bekobod, where he is reviewing ongoing industrial projects and prospective investment initiatives, a source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Kun.uz.
According to the source, Mirziyoyev will attend the funeral of Qatar's former emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and offer condolences on behalf of Uzbekistan.
The former ruler of Qatar died on July 12 at the age of 74. He led the country from 1995 to 2013 and was the father of the current emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
During his reign, Qatar underwent rapid economic transformation and significantly strengthened its international standing. Sheikh Hamad oversaw major investment projects and played a key role in expanding the country's global partnerships.
His tenure also coincided with Qatar's emergence as the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas, helping establish the country as a major player in global energy markets.
