According to the committee, the first case involved a woman leaving Uzbekistan who tried to smuggle two gold bars weighing nearly 200 grams by hiding them inside her infant's diaper.
Customs officers also discovered 70 grams of undeclared jewelry in her possession. Preliminary estimates put the total value of the seized items at around UZS 450 million.+
In a separate case, a citizen of a neighboring country was stopped while attempting to take $40,000 in cash across the border after concealing the money beneath the clothing of his 14-year-old daughter.
The Customs Committee reminded the public that involving a minor in the commission of an offense is considered an aggravating circumstance under the law.
Customs authorities are currently conducting investigations into both cases.
