According to the National Statistics Committee, the number of foreign students arriving in the country increased by 11,500, or 2.2 times, year on year.
Citizens of Turkmenistan accounted for the largest share, with 9,207 students arriving in Uzbekistan. They were followed by India with 3,723 students and Tajikistan with 1,915.
China ranked next with 951 students, followed by Kyrgyzstan with 834, Pakistan with 689 and Egypt with 603.
South Korea accounted for 526 arrivals, the Philippines for 367 and the United States for 302. A further 1,925 students came from other countries.
The rise in the number of foreign students coincided with a decline in the number of Uzbek citizens travelling abroad for education.
According to National Statistics Committee data for the first quarter of 2026, 5,862 Uzbek citizens left the country to study abroad. This was 1,600 fewer than in the same period of 2025, representing a decline of 21.2%.
Russia, South Korea and Kyrgyzstan were the most popular destinations for Uzbek citizens studying abroad.
