Aksa Enerji Chairman of the Board Cemil Kazancı announced the plans in an interview with Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.

The company intends to invest in distribution infrastructure to reduce electricity losses, lower costs and improve energy efficiency, Kazancı said.

“We also discussed our agreements for Tashkent, Syrdarya and Jizzakh regions at the meeting. We plan to sign them within a week. This will allow us to extend to these regions the operations we began in Samarkand,” he said.

Kazancı added that a meeting with the president had clarified the tasks the company was expected to carry out. The company will study the projects presented during the visit and submit its proposals, he said, expressing hope that the visit would result in concrete agreements.

Aksa Enerji has invested $750 million in Uzbekistan to date and built four power plants, Kazancı said. The company also plans to expand into electricity and gas distribution.

Aksa Enerji previously won an international tender to manage Samarkand region’s electricity distribution networks under a 30-year agreement. The investor plans to invest $1 billion in the region’s infrastructure, including $357 million in direct investment during the first 12 years.

The private partner is required to invest at least $27 million during the first two years and reduce energy losses. The electricity distribution networks themselves will remain state-owned.
