Mirziyoyev addressed the opening of the second meeting of the US–Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council, attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US President Donald Trump’s Special Representative Sergio Gor, and representatives of leading American companies and banks.

The president said the meeting in Samarkand, a historic crossroads of peoples, cultures and trade routes, carried symbolic significance as the two countries sought to deepen their economic ties.

He credited the personal attention and support of Trump with helping bring bilateral relations to a new stage and stressed the need to build on the countries’ political partnership by expanding economic cooperation.

The US–Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council has played an important role in advancing joint projects and initiatives, Mirziyoyev said.

He also outlined Uzbekistan’s economic reforms, pointing to economic growth, the launch of new industrial enterprises, job creation and expanded educational opportunities for young people. He stressed that investment in industrial development and modern infrastructure should go hand in hand with the adoption of advanced technologies and the exchange of expertise.

Hundreds of companies with American capital are operating in Uzbekistan, with cooperation spanning industry, energy, transport, agriculture, education and technology. Uzbek companies have also begun investing in the US economy, he said.

The meeting followed extensive preparatory work that resulted in a package of 54 agreements and prospective initiatives worth approximately $12 billion. A comprehensive action plan will be developed to implement them.

Mirziyoyev outlined three priorities for improving the council’s work and strengthening the economic partnership.
