Uzbekistan to build a madrasa in Afghanistan for 6 million USD
Uzbekistan finances the construction of the "Khairul-mudarris Imam Bukhari" madrasa in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan.
According to TOLOnews, the Deputy Governor of Balkh Region Nurul-Khodi Abu Idris and the Consul General of Uzbekistan in Afghanistan Farkhod Nazarov participated in the ceremony of the beginning of construction on August 21.
The madrasa is located on an area of 0.6 hectares and provides religious education to 1,000 students. Its construction was agreed between the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, and the Taliban leaders during the negotiations held on March 12-13 of this year.
"This religious school is being built at the request of the Governor of Balkh. We have allocated a year for this project, until then it will be completed," said Nazarov. According to the Consul General, 6 million USD will be spent on the construction of the madrasa.
"God willing, the establishment of this madrasa will further strengthen the ties between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan," said Abdujalil Shahidkhil, head of the education department of Balkh region.
The Consul General also added that Uzbekistan will soon resume issuing educational and business visas for Afghan citizens.
