Sherzod Shermatov: “We speak a lot about patriotism, spirituality and enlightenment. However, we have many shortcomings in this direction”

Kun.uz correspondent conducted an interview with the Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov on the issues of presidential schools, teacher-pupil-parent relations, status of teachers and other cases related to the public education system.

During the interview, Sherzod Shermatov said that the notion of patriotism in our society is low and the concept of spirituality is being perceived considerably negative.

“Our president said that teachers and school principals would be attracted from abroad, so that young people could learn modern knowledge and foreign languages. Most importantly, they should become patriots.

We speak a lot about patriotism, spirituality and enlightenment. I should note that in terms of patriotism of the people, we are far behind the UK or the United States. We have a lot of shortcomings in this direction.

A simple example is that the whole world knows about the United States Independence Day, which has been memorable for those who have been watching the impressive "Independence Day" blockbuster. In the global arena, patriotism is practiced in such creative ways.

Another example is that if you ask a child running outside, he speaks about "Captain America", why he does not say "Captain Uzbek"?

Therefore, one of the main tasks of the Presidential schools is not only to provide graduates with excellent knowledge, but also to educate professionals who will contribute to the future of our country.

We want to announce the post of deputy director for spiritual enlightenment of our children soon. We need to gather specialists who can adopt the concept of patriotism in a creative, innovative way.

The fact is that when you read online articles these days, the word “spirituality” is often perceived in a negative sense.

I wish experts can find the way through information technologies, social networks, and explain the true nature of spirituality and patriotism to our young people.

These concepts are used gradually in other schools as soon as they are used in presidential schools”.
