Court sentences Umar Radjabov to 11 years in prison

On Wednesday, the Samarkand city court on criminal proceedings delivered a verdict on Umar Radjabov, the head of a large construction company, as well as three other defendants, who were involved in his case as accomplices. The regional newspaper “Samarkandskiy vestnik” reports about this.

“U. Radjabov was sentenced to 11 years in prison. His son R. Radjabov – to 8.5 years, Sh. Oblokulov – to 10 years and A. Odilov – to 9 years. By a court decision, their property will be seized in favor of the affected citizens,” the newspaper writes.

On February 11 this year, Umar Radjabov, his son and several individuals were detained by law enforcement officials.

They were charged under Articles 168 (fraud), 189 (violation of the rules of trade or the provision of services) and 228 (production, forgery of documents, stamps, seals, forms, their sale or use) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.

It also became known that Radjabov with several persons collected 900 million soums from the local residents for apartments. In general, the houses were built in the historical part of Samarkand, protected by UNESCO. After the current khokim cancelled the former khokim’s decision, relevant organizations began to demolish the seven-story building. After that, several clients, who paid for the apartment, appealed to the prosecutor’s office.
