Uzbek nationals cleared of involvement in Volgograd prison hostage incident

It has been clarified that no Uzbek nationals were involved in the hostage-taking, and the identities of those involved were only confirmed after they had been neutralized.

No Uzbek nationals were among those who took employees and inmates hostage at Correctional Colony No. 19 in the Volgograd region of Russia, the Baza Telegram channel reported.

"Ramziddin Toshev and Temur Khusinov did not participate in the hostage-taking at Correctional Colony No. 19 in the Volgograd region. They were mistakenly included in the list. The identities of the participants were confirmed only after they were neutralized," Baza wrote.

Earlier, reports had indicated that four inmates were involved in the incident, with two of them (Ramziddin Toshev and Temur Khusinov) being Uzbek nationals, and the other two (Navruz Rustamjon and Nazirjon Toshev) being Tajik nationals.

According to Baza, in addition to Navruz Rustamjon and Nazirjon Toshev, Shobdulkarimkhon Karimov and Shohijakhon Saifiev were also involved in the attack. It was noted that they were also citizens of Tajikistan.

On August 23, four inmates at Correctional Colony No. 19 took prison employees hostage. The Federal Penitentiary Service reported that a total of eight people were taken hostage in the prison. The inmates injured four employees with knives, three of whom died at the scene. Later, a special unit of the Russian National Guard stormed the colony and neutralized all four inmates involved in the hostage-taking. It was reported that a total of eight people died in the incident, and only one person was freed during the storming.
