Visit of SRSG Natalia Gherman to Uzbekistan

On Saturday, September 15, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, the Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Natalia Gherman, who is on a working visit in Uzbekistan.

The sides, at the meeting, discussed topical issues of Uzbekistan's cooperation with the UN and its agencies, in particular, with the UNRCCA, the press service of the MFA reported.

Special attention was paid to implementation of important international initiatives, put forward by Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan, at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in September 2017.

As it was stressed at this context, the adoption of the historically important resolution of the UN General Assembly “Strengthening regional-international cooperation to ensure peace, stability and sustainable development in Central Asia” is a confirmation of broad international support for development of cooperation in the region.

The parties also considered some regional issues.

Views were exchanged on the agenda of “Central Asia: new opportunities and prospects for regional cooperation” international conference, which is to be held in 2019 in Tashkent with participation of leading international think tanks.
