Belarus repairing Uzbek military aircraft

The Belarus enterprise "558 Aviation repair plant" in Baranovichy has completed maintenance of the MiG-29 fighter aircraft of the Uzbek Air Forces, Kun.uz correspondent reports quoting the BMPD military blog.

The plane had a coat of new dark color after repair.

According to the source, at the beginning of 2017, Uzbekistan signed a contract with Belarus to conduct overhaul-repairs at JSC “558 Aviation repair factory” in Baranovichy for four MiG-29 fighter jets and four Su-25 attack aircrafts from the Uzbek Air Forces.

In total, Uzbekistan has planned to repair eight MiG-29s and eight Su-25s. Thus, the Uzbek MiG-29s with onboard numbers "20" and "24" were delivered to Baranovichy in 2017.

After the collapse of the USSR, Uzbekistan received 45 MiG-29 fighter aircrafts as part of the 115th Guards Fighter Aviation Order of Orshan by Kutuzov and Alexander Nevsky regiments deployed at the Kokaydy airfield (the regiment was re-equipped with MiG-21bis fighters in 1988-1990).

On January 1, 1993, the regiment was incorporated into the Air Forces of Uzbekistan as the 61st separate fighter aviation regiment. In 1999, it was relocated to the airfield Karshi-Khanabad. In 2002, the regiment was disbanded and all MiG-29 fighters became part of the 60th special mixed aviation brigade of Uzbek air forces based at Karshi-Khanabad (together with Su-24M /MR and Su-27 aircrafts).

Nominally, the Air Forces of Uzbekistan currently has up to 32 MiG-29 fighters, but almost all of them have been stored for a long time and only a few aircrafts are in flying condition.
