In Samarkand, an international round table was held on the theme “Judicial protection of the rights of business entities: the experience of Uzbekistan and foreign practice”. The event was attended by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan, the United Nations Development Program and the coordinators of OSCE and GIZ projects.

During the round table, the participants addressed issues of improving national legislation in terms of enhancing the efficiency and quality of legal proceedings.

“Protection of the rights and freedom of entrepreneurs and judicial protection of their interests is the main focus of the current judicial-legal reform in Uzbekistan,” the officials noted at the meeting.

In addition, they discussed the introduction of effective protection mechanisms and institutions to ensure the rights and interests of entrepreneurs, as well as the use of alternative tools to resolve disputes between entrepreneurs.

“Such events help the government to establish relationship with the private sector which will allow us to improve the business environment and attract additional investment in Uzbekistan,” Dan Bigan, acting USAID Director in Uzbekistan said.

Thus, the participants discussed the modern experience used abroad on the legal protection of entrepreneurs.

“International experts presented their vision on doing business with foreign partners and offered important recommendations to investors and the host country, which were developed based on their experience in international arbitration,” the report reads.

It was noted that from June 1, 2017, economic courts were formed instead of the previously operating ones. In addition, the Economic procedural code of the Republic of Uzbekistan was adopted.
