OECD Secretary General to visit Uzbekistan in 2019

José Ángel Gurría, Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), will visit Uzbekistan in 2019, Kun.uz correspondent reports.  

It was announced at the end of the negotiations of the Uzbek delegation, headed by Deputy PM Nodir Otajonov, and OECD Secretary General Ángel Gurría. These talks were held yesterday in Paris. 

During the talks, the sides discussed prospects for further cooperation between Uzbekistan and the OECD in priority areas, including the development of regional trade and transport connectivity.

Additionally, the progress and further implementation of the project “Increasing Trade and Transport Connectivity in Central Asia” was discussed. It should be noted that Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are participating in this project. It is dedicated to issues of transport policy and infrastructure and being implemented in cooperation with the International Transport Forum (ITF). 

The OECD is an international interstate organization of economically developed countries that recognizes the principles of representative democracy and free market economy, also known as “the Club of developed countries”.

The OECD member states have the opportunity to discuss, develop and coordinate economic and social policies, share experiences, look for solutions to common problems and develop concerted domestic and foreign policies. The Organization was founded in 1948 as the Organization for European Economic Cooperation (OEEC).
