Navoi TPP completes the first stage of the modern steam-to-gas plant

On December 29, 2018, within the framework of the project “Expansion of Navoi Thermal Power Plant (TPP) with the construction of a second steam-to-gas plant (SGP) of combined-cycle with a capacity of 450 MW”, the “first ignition” of the Gas Turbine at SGP-2 was successfully completed.

The press service of the company “Uzbekenergo” reports that the project is ready for commissioning. The steam-to-gas plant at the Navoi TPP can be operated in a simple cycle. It generates electricity using a gas turbine (without using a steam turbine) producing 312.1 MW of electricity in a simple cycle mode to supply electricity for needs of the economy.

Completing the construction of the facility for launching an SGP with combined cycle, generating electricity with a capacity of 450 MW, is scheduled for January 2020. This will be one of the most highly efficient power plants in the Central Asian region, the company noted.

The SGP station with a simple operating cycle at the Navoi TPP – a specially designed project is unique to the region with an annual output of 2.26 billion kWh of electricity almost a year before putting the combined cycle facility into commercial exploitation.

The project demonstrates a modern approach using advanced methods and technologies. It is co-financed by credit lines of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Foundation for Reconstruction and Development and the own funds of the JSC “Uzbekenergo”.

The general contractors are “Mitsubishi Corporation” and “Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd”.
