Uzbekistan joins Global Green Growth Institute
Uzbekistan has become a member of the Global Green Growth Institute, the press service of the Foreign Ministry said.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the document was signed on February 7, and the ministry officially notified the Secretariat of this organization.
Uzbekistan, becoming the first member state of the Global Green Growth Institute among the CIS countries, plans to implement joint projects with GGGI, primarily in the Aral Sea region by attracting financial resources from the United Nations Green Climate Fund and other international donor organizations.
For information, The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is an international intergovernmental organization with headquarters in Seoul. It is established in 2012 with the goal of supporting and promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries through introducing a “green economy” in a changing climate. Currently, GGGI is implementing 54 projects in more than 30 countries of the world.
It is planned to organize a visit by experts of the Global Green Growth Institute to Uzbekistan in March in order to discuss practical cooperation and develop a joint strategy of interaction with donor organizations.
During the visit, the Institute's experts will visit the Aral Sea region to familiarize themselves with the ongoing large-scale landscaping measures on the dried bottom of the Aral Sea, as well as the activities of the Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region under the auspices of the UN.
In accordance with the roadmap for the development of cooperation with the GGGI approved by the President of Uzbekistan, it is planned to open its representative office in Tashkent with accreditation to the Foreign Ministry.
The South Korean company Evergreen Motors Group expressed its willingness to provide a place for the representative office of the Institute in Uzbekistan in the planned building of the Uzbek-Korean business center on Seoul Street in Tashkent.
