Turkish companies may be attracted to construct solar and wind power plants in Uzbekistan

Companies from Turkey are exploring the possibility of building combined-cycle power plants, solar and wind power plants in Uzbekistan, the press service of Uzatom reported.

Perspective projects were discussed on February 14 at a meeting of the Energy Minister of Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov with the Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Mithat Zhansiz.

During the meeting, they discussed the implementation of previously reached agreements with a number of Turkish companies, as well as proposals to accelerate the progress of partnership projects in the energy sector, including the construction of power facilities, as well as works on geological exploration.

“In particular, Turkish companies are currently working on promising projects in Uzbekistan in such areas as construction of combined-cycle power plants, solar and wind power plants,” the report says.

It should be noted that until 2030, Uzbekenergo plans to increase electricity generation to 117 billion kWh (now 56-58 billion).

In Uzbekistan, electricity is produced mainly by burning natural gas, which accounts for about 93% of the structure of fuel consumption at Uzbekenergo power plants.
