Uzbekistan to prohibit marriage among close relatives
On the portal of discussions of normative-legal acts, a draft law “On introducing amendments to Article 16 of the Family Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was placed.
According to the document, the third paragraph (among relatives who are directly related to the genealogy of their descendants, among siblings and stepsons, stepsisters, as well as among adoptive parents and adopted children) of the Article 16 (circumstances that interfere with marriage) of the Family Code, which was ratified by the Law № 607-1 of the Republic of Uzbekistan of April 30, 1998, will be amended as below:
“among relatives who are directly related to the line of descent, between siblings and stepsons, stepsisters, among the children of parents and siblings, as well as among the adoptive parents and adopted children;”.
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Justice, the Women's Committee and the Scientific-Practical Research Center “Family” ensure that this Law is communicated to the Executives and its meaning and significance is explained among population.
Earlier it was reported that a list of cases that would prevent marriage would be filled up.
