Population growth in Uzbekistan slows as marriage and divorce trends shift
In the first half of this year, 97,400 marriages were registered in Uzbekistan, which is 1,300 fewer than in the same period last year. The average age for women at marriage was 22.9 years, and for men, it was 27.8 years. The number of divorces decreased by 11.6% compared to last year.
As of July 1, 2024, Uzbekistan's population was 37.1342 million, an increase of 2.1% or 761,800 people compared to the same period last year, according to the Statistics Agency.
Starting this year, the population growth rate has begun to slow. Specifically, in the same period of 2023, population growth was 2.2% or 768,800 people.
From January to June 2024, the number of registered marriages in Uzbekistan was 97,400, which is 1,265 fewer than in the same period last year and 11,534 fewer compared to the same period in 2022.
During the reporting period, the average age of women in registered marriages was 22.9 years, and for men, it was 27.8 years. The largest share of registered marriages, 76.2%, involved women under the age of 25.
In the first half of this year, the number of registered divorces was 22,467, which is 2,955 fewer or 11.6% less than in the same period of 2023. However, this figure is 3,000 more than in 2021.
From January to June 2024, the number of divorces in childless marriages was 10,479 (46.6%), divorces with one child were 6,616 (29.4%), and divorces with two or more children were 5,374 (24%).
The average age of divorced men was 37.1 years, and for women, it was 32.2 years. The largest share of divorces, 64.1%, involved women under the age of 35.
