Deputy Justice Minister Mahmud Istamov meets with WIPO Director General Francis Gurry in Geneva

On February 26, 2019, a delegation of Uzbekistan headed by First Deputy Minister of Justice Mahmud Istamov met in Geneva with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Francis Gurry, the MFA said in a statement.

According to the information of the Permanent Mission of our country to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, the Uzbek delegation will attend the regular session of the UN Human Rights Council in Switzerland.

The meeting discussed promising areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and WIPO.

Francis Gurry highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s accession to two WIPO Treaties – “on copyrights” and “on performances and phonograms”, in February this year.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on WIPO assistance in:

- increasing the effectiveness of the Intellectual Property Agency under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan by optimizing its activities and accelerating introduction of information technologies;

- training Uzbek specialists in leading international educational institutions in the field of intellectual property protection, as well as conducting specialized seminars and trainings to improve the potential of personnel in the IP sphere of Uzbekistan;

- attracting international experts to codify national legislation in the field of intellectual property.
