Syracuse University considers opening campus in Tashkent

Uzbek Ambassador to the United States Javlon Vakhabov met with the leadership of one of the oldest universities in the United States – Syracuse University (New York).

In August 2018, a Memorandum on academic cooperation and joint research agreement was signed between this American university and Tashkent University of Information Technologies.

“During the conversation with the President of Syracuse University Kent Syverud, the issues of establishing academic and scientific-research cooperation in the field of IT and data analysis, public administration and management of state financing, international relations and journalism were discussed,” the MFA of Uzbekistan reports.

Negotiations were also held with the heads of the Maxwell School in the structure of the university on citizenship and public relations and the iSchool.

The launch of double-diploma education programs and creation of joint faculties in core areas with UWED and Tashkent University of Information Technologies, organizing training at the Maxwell School for students of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Uzbekistan, expert assistance in implementing projects for development of the “E-Government”, “Single window”, as well as introduction of a digital economy within the framework of the concept of “Digital Uzbekistan – 2030” were among the high-priority areas of cooperation.

During the meeting, the issue of opening a campus of the Syracuse University in Tashkent with academic programs in the field of information technology and data management was discussed separately.

According to the Uzbekistan Embassy in Washington, representatives of the American university are ready to visit Uzbekistan at the end of March this year for a more detailed discussion on terms of cooperation and implementation of specific projects.

The private research university, founded in 1870 in Syracuse, is located in the northeastern part of the US. According to the edition U.S. News & World Report, Syracuse University is one of the three best universities in the US on programs in the field of public administration and information sciences.
