Nine lawyers were prosecuted in 2018 – Ministry of Justice

The Chamber of Lawyers of the Republic of Uzbekistan has published information on the number of attorneys brought to criminal liabilities in 2018 on its website.

Reportedly, in 2018, criminal cases were initiated against nine lawyers. Each of Tashkent and Namangan provinces prosecuted two lawyers. In Andijan, Kashkadarya, Samarkand and Fergana provinces and in the Republic of Karakalpakstan – only one case.

On September 3, 2018, in Samarkand, the head of the regional Department of the Chamber of Advocates of the Republic of Uzbekistan Otabek Akhtamov was charged with accepting $12,000 in bribe and detained by the SSS officers.

It should be reminded that the number of lawyers who were brought to criminal responsibilities was 29 in 2017 and 32 in 2016. In terms of regions, the biggest numbers were in Tashkent city (9 and 10 respectively) and Samarkand region (2 and 5).
