Regional IMF center for technical assistance may appear in Tashkent

At the Ministry of Finance, a meeting with the delegation of the Federal Department of finance and financial markets and the State Secretariat for International Financial Matters (SIF) of Switzerland was held.

The head of the delegation – Alexander Carrer, Deputy Secretary of State and Head of the Financial System and Financial Markets Department of the State Secretariat for International Financial Matters (SIF) of the Federal Department of Finance of Switzerland, said that the goal of the visit is to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the finance ministries of Uzbekistan and Switzerland.

It was noted that the IMF plans to open a center for technical assistance in Central Asia. The Swiss side will provide full (or partial) funding of the center.

“The IMF is studying cities of the region to locate the center, and Tashkent is one of the best places. The center is designed to provide technical assistance in two areas: training and retraining of specialists, as well as provision of technical assistance in various areas,” the Finance Ministry of Uzbekistan reported.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to consider a draft memorandum on strengthening financial cooperation between the two countries and sign it in the future.
