Uzbekistan ranks lowest in Central Asia in Global AI Readiness Index

According to the latest report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Uzbekistan has been ranked 123rd in the Global Artificial Intelligence (AI) Readiness Index, placing it last among Central Asian countries. The ranking, which was highlighted by Ranking.kz based on IMF data, assesses nations' preparedness to integrate AI into various sectors.

The index evaluates 174 countries and considers factors such as digital infrastructure, human capital, technological innovation, and regulatory frameworks, utilizing data from organizations like the World Bank and the International Labor Organization. Among Central Asian countries, Kazakhstan leads with a ranking of 48th, followed by Kyrgyzstan at 99th, and Tajikistan tied with Uzbekistan at 123rd. Turkmenistan was not included in the ranking.

Globally, Singapore, Denmark, and the United States emerged as top leaders in AI readiness, reflecting strong investments in digital infrastructure and workforce capabilities. At the opposite end, the Central African Republic, Afghanistan, and South Sudan were ranked lowest.

The report underscores the importance of investing in digital infrastructure and human capital development to successfully integrate AI technologies into economies and societies. Tajikistan notably took proactive steps in AI development, becoming the first country in Central Asia to adopt a National AI Strategy in September 2022 under the initiative of President Emomali Rahmon.
