Minimum age requirement for the post of judges and community advisors may be increased

The draft amendments to the laws “On courts” and “On the Supreme Council of Judges of the Republic of Uzbekistan” are publicized, Norma writes.
Currently, minimum age requirement for district (city) judges is 30. A similar age is defined for public advisers (Articles 61, 62 of the Law “On courts”). It is offered to increase it to 35. No other qualification requirements have been specified in the proposed amendments.
It should be noted that in 2017, the minimum age requirement for Constitutional Court judges was increased too.
A number of amendments and additions have also been envisaged:
• procedure for selecting candidates for the post of judges (first time taking office), including the requirement for training in special training courses (PQ-4096 dated 6.01.2019);
• after expiration of the term, appointment to the post of judge and other similar positions. At present, this mechanism is not regulated yet. In particular, the largest interval for the next decade and post-term appointments (election) was noted as 6 months. During this period, the process of re-appointment (re-election) is carried out;
• mandate of the Supreme Council of Judges, its activities and so on.
The project may be introduced changes, additions or denied.
