Uzbekistan, US aim to help facilitate socio-economic reforms in Afghanistan
On April 11, Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received the US delegation led by the Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad, the press service of the MFA reported.
At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan and prospects for starting a peace process in the country.
As was noted by the parties, the settlement of long-standing Afghan conflict is possible only through peaceful negotiations between the opposing parties. This key provision was initiated and recorded in the text of Tashkent Declaration on Afghanistan, adopted last year by representatives of leading world powers and countries of the region based on consensus.
In this context, the parties discussed priority areas of Uzbekistan – American cooperation, as well as proposals for practical cooperation in constriction of major socio-economic facilities and infrastructure projects in Afghanistan, which will allow the country to develop peacefully and steadily, to become an organic part of political, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian space of Central Asia.
Other issues of international and regional problems were also discussed during the talks.
