Sergey Lavrov to visit Uzbekistan

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit Tashkent on May 2-3, where he will meet with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov. This was announced on Thursday at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, TASS reports.

“On May 2-3, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will pay a working visit to Tashkent,” she said. “On May 2, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry will be received by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and his talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of this state are planned.”

“A review of the implementation of large-scale agreements is expected, they were reached on the basis of Vladimir Putin’s state visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan on October 18-19, 2018. In addition, an exchange of views on topical issues of bilateral cooperation will also take place,” Zakharova informed.

Furthermore, the diplomat said that Lavrov will discuss with the leadership of Uzbekistan the current state and prospects for peaceful settlement of the Afghan issue. “We will have to consider a wide range of regional and international issues of mutual interest,” Zakharova said. “Special attention will be paid to the situation in neighboring Afghanistan, coordination of efforts to peacefully overcome the crisis in this country.”
