MFA comments on abduction of an Uzbek citizen in Kazakhstan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan commented on information about the abduction of an Uzbek citizen in Kazakhstan.

It should be recalled that recently, a video has gone viral on social networks, in which employees of the special department of the National Security Committee at the yard of the avant-garde five-story building in Atyrau detained three men. As it became known, this is the adherents of the destructive religious movement “Salafism”, who kidnapped a person and extorted a ransom for him.

On this issue, the police department for countering extremism in the Atyrau region reported the followings:

“Three citizens (born in 1990 and 1991) on April 16, abducted a citizen of Uzbekistan S. Ya. from his apartment using violence, and then they began to extort 300,000 tenge from the kidnapped person's friend M. S., citizen of Uzbekistan. It turned out that earlier, the attackers had already received money in the amount of 100,000 tenge from M. S. under the threat of violence.”

The detainees were seized the money and belongings of the victims, as well as the nunchakus with which they beat the abducted persons, and keys to a Lada Largus car belonging to one of the victims. Criminal proceedings were initiated against the all three on the fact of abduction and extortion. The materials were transferred to the police department for further investigation.

On April 19, a specialized investigative court of Atyrau authorized the arrest of suspects for a period of 2 months. They have already admitted their committed crimes.

The consular-legal department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reported that the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Almaty is taking necessary steps to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
